This gallery showcases images from a few magical nights spent beneath the vast skies of Yellowstone, capturing the elusive aurora borealis. In Yellowstone, sightings of the aurora are rare, usually reserved for moments when a strong solar storm unfolds. I've been fortunate enough to witness these celestial displays multiple times in the park, and each occurrence has been a captivating and unforgettable experience.
Most of these images were taken on one extraordinary night, May 10-11th, 2024. In my free ebook, I share the full story of photographing the aurora as it danced above Yellowstone's otherworldly thermal features. The book includes a complete narrative from that night and 28 images—some not included here. You can read a blog post about my experience and download my free ebook, "Yellowstone Illuminated: A Night of Photography Under the Aurora."
